4 Free After School Activities that your kids will love

With the school year starting back up again, Indy Parks is offering free programs for youth to get involved in a new hobby, connect with their peers, and find a supportive environment outside of the classroom. There are several new programs starting in September for kids of all ages!

Wheels Club at Ellenberger Park

With this program presented in partnership with Aspire House Indy, kids aged 10 and up can have fun learning the basic fundamentals of roller skating. Participants will learn the parts of a roller skate, how to start, stop, and change direction, as well as more advanced techniques. And, parents can join in on the fun too! Parents and guardians may also register to participate with their children.

Where: Ellenberger Park – 5301 E St Clair St.

When: Sept. 3 – Nov. 19, 2024 | Tuesdays, 4:00 – 5:30pm

Fishing Club at Krannert Park

Do you have a kiddo who wants to go fishing, but doesn’t know how? Or one who enjoys fishing and wants to learn more? Krannert Park’s fishing club is the place for them! Kids ages 11 – 17 can join Clint Kowalik of Go Fishin’ with Clint to gain fishing knowledge and new fishing skills, becoming confident at the water’s edge. No fishing experience and no fishing license required. Participants are encouraged to register even if they can’t make all 8 lessons.

Where: Krannert Park – 605 S High School Rd.

When: Sep. 3 – Oct. 29, 2024 | Tuesdays, 5:00 -6:30pm

“Hear Me” Workshop at Frederick Douglass Park (Ages 9-19)⁠

In today’s crisis teens are suffering like never before to communicate their thoughts, emotions, needs and wants. Current studies have determined that this has created an increase in suicide rate, and drug abuse amongst teens. “Hear Me” is a collection of five skill sets that are 100% teachable, measurable, and observable. This free 6 week program places a highlight on a culture of constructive conversation that creates a curiosity, honesty, and bravery.

Where: Frederick Douglass Park Family Center – 1616 E 25th St.

When: Sept. 3 – Oct. 8, 2024 | Tuesdays, 5:00 – 6:16pm

Girls on the Run at various Indy Parks

Girls on the Run inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths wile building a sense of connection in a team setting. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. At the end of the season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Programming designed for girls 3rd-5th grade.

Where: Broad Ripple Park (1426 Broad Ripple Ave.), Frederick Douglass Park (1616 E 25th St.), Garfield Park Arts Center (2432 Conservatory Dr.), and Riverside Park (2420 Riverside E Dr.)

When: Starts the week of Sept. 9 and ends Mid-November. Times vary at each location.
