The park was named in honor of Earl Tolin and his father Jerry Akeman, whose family had owned the land since 1895. The land was donated in 1988 under the condition that it always be used as a park. Earl Tolin, a dedicated educator for 48 years, and Jerry Akeman, an IMPD detective sergeant, exemplified a commitment to community service throughout their esteemed careers. This park stands as a testament to their legacy, a place where the spirit of community continues.
