{"id":6072,"date":"2026-08-05T20:32:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T20:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parks.indy.gov\/?p=6072"},"modified":"2026-08-05T20:32:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T20:32:29","slug":"indy-parks-city-leaders-unveil-new-signature-playground-at-garfield-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parks.indy.gov\/es\/indy-parks-city-leaders-unveil-new-signature-playground-at-garfield-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Indy Parks &#038; City Leaders Unveil New Signature Playground\u00a0at Garfield Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The New&nbsp;Signature&nbsp;Playground&nbsp;Brings a Major Upgrade to the City\u2019s First&nbsp;Park &nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>INDIAN\u00c1POLIS&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013&nbsp;Today, Indy Parks and city leaders celebrated&nbsp;the opening of Garfield\u2019s Park new&nbsp;signature playground.&nbsp;The oldest park in the city, Garfield Park received $5.5 million from the Lilly Endowment Grant to Indy Parks to restore the Sunken Garden Fountains and build a new playground. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/garfieldparkindy.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Amigos del parque Garfield<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;oversaw the restoration of the Sunken Gardens which were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parks.indy.gov\/es\/indy-parks-the-friends-of-garfield-park-announce-the-reopening-of-the-garfield-park-sunken-garden-fountains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>reopened earlier this summer<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThanks&nbsp;to&nbsp;collaboration between&nbsp;Lilly Endowment, Indy&nbsp;Parks&nbsp;and the Friends of Garfield Park, we continue to see generational&nbsp;improvements&nbsp;to our parks come to fruition,\u201d&nbsp;said Mayor Hogsett. \u201cThis new playground&nbsp;now joins the revitalized&nbsp;Sunken Garden Fountains as&nbsp;yet another iconic amenity for Garfield Park visitors to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The $80&nbsp;million&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parks.indy.gov\/es\/lilly-endowment-grant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Subvenci\u00f3n de dotaci\u00f3n de Lilly<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;is investing in&nbsp;42 parks as part of the larger $150 million investment in the Indy Parks system.&nbsp;As of August 5, 2026, Indy Parks&nbsp;and foundation partners&nbsp;have&nbsp;completed&nbsp;projects at 19 parks funded by the grant.&nbsp;21 other projects have been awarded or are under construction, with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parks.indy.gov\/es\/parks\/lt-jr-grd-graham-edward-martin-park-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Graham Edward Martin Park<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the latest to be&nbsp;awarded&nbsp;at the July Parks Board Meeting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGarfield Park has always been a special place for our community, and this new playground is another great investment in its future,\u201d said Councilor Frank Mascari, District 19. \u201cI\u2019m grateful to Indy Parks, Lilly Endowment, and the Friends of Garfield Park for making this project possible and creating a space that families will enjoy for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to&nbsp;Garfield Park,&nbsp;eight neighborhood parks&nbsp;south and southeast of downtown Indianapolis&nbsp;received&nbsp;a new playground&nbsp;through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parks.indy.gov\/es\/about-us\/park-projects-and-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>recent rounds of funding<\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;Those&nbsp;improvements include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parque del Tri\u00e1ngulo McCarty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>beb\u00e9 denny parque<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parque Sexson<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parque Ringgold<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parque naranja\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parque stacy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Porter Playfield Park<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parque del orgullo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis new signature playground adds to the incredible&nbsp;spaces&nbsp;at Garfield Park including&nbsp;the Conservatory and Sunken Garden, Arts Center,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Family Center,\u201d&nbsp;said Indy Parks Director&nbsp;Brittany Crone. \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to see this playground become a true destination for play for the community and the entire city.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new playground includes a range of amenities for younger children ages 2-5 along with larger structures for ages 5-12, including climbing and music play features.&nbsp;New Indy Parks playgrounds include accessible pour in place surfacing and a variety of sensory play items.&nbsp;Between ARPA and Lilly Endowment Grant projects,&nbsp;55&nbsp;playgrounds&nbsp;have been added or replaced since 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;Images from the event are available&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1HqqYqUSm9oWmqb2_hBH-bGQrmFJm77SK?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aqu\u00ed<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":19,"featured_media":6073,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"press-release-topics":[],"press-release-type":[],"class_list":["post-6072","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Indy Parks &amp;
