The White River Trail is approximately 4.75 miles long. It starts at Riverside Regional Park and follows the White River to White River State Park. The trail connects to the Central Canal Towpath and passes several attractions, such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Lake Sullivan Sports Center, and the Indianapolis Zoo. Users can also access Monon Trail.
The White River canoe route can be found off the trail at Town Run Trail Park, Broad Ripple Park, the Indianapolis Arts Center, and Riverside Regional Park. The 16-mile route passes through dense woods and residential sections.
Once complete, the trail will be 23 miles long, connecting the greenways of Fall Creek, Eagle Creek, Pleasant Run, and Little Buck Creek. The trail will extend from the Indianapolis Zoo to Raymond St.

Trail Etiquette
Be respective of your fellow hikers with the trail etiquette below:
- Always be aware of your speed and trail conditions.
- Be considerate of all trail users, especially small children, and senior citizens.
- Communicate before passing others.
- Share the trail courteously.
- Respect private property.
- In-line skates and bikers yield to pedestrians. Bicyclists yield to all other trail users.
- Yield to trail users when entering the path.
- Keep to the right and pass on the left.
- Keep pets on short leashes and remove pet waste.
- Dispose of trash properly.
- Wait for a clear walk signal before crossing streets. Look both ways and cross carefully.
- Always give vehicles extra time and room to stop and see you.
- Do not disturb animals or vegetation.
In case of an emergency, dial 911. For unsafe conditions and non-emergency concerns:
- Report unsafe conditions to the Mayor’s Action Center at 317.327.4622.
- Report non-emergency safety concerns to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and Park Rangers at 317.327.3811.
When on a mountain bike, follow the rules of the trail below:
- Ride open trails: Respect trail and road closures. Do not trespass.
- Leave no trace: When the trail is soft, consider other options. Pack out what you pack in.
- Control your bicycle: Always pay attention, obey speed regulations, and know your limits.
- Yield appropriately: Let others know you’re coming. Yield to all other users.
- Never scare animals: Be respectful. Give animals enough room and time to adjust to you.
- Plan ahead: Know your equipment, carry necessary supplies, and wear safety gear.
