INDIANAPOLIS – Today, city leaders and the WNBA All-Star 2025 Host Committee unveiled a new Legacy Court at Al Polin Park. Painted by local artist Kierra Ready, the court highlights the WNBA All-Star game being held in Indianapolis on July 18-19. The event also featured a youth basketball clinic on the new court for Indy Parks summer campers.
“The City is honored that the WNBA All-Star 2025 Host Committee chose to support one of our Indy Parks with its Legacy Program,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Projects like this new basketball court will have an impact on our neighborhoods long after the conclusion of WNBA All-Star. One by one, we are transforming our parks into truly welcoming public spaces, and investments into sports infrastructure like this will give our young people a place to play Indiana’s game.”
The Legacy Court initiative is part of the broader legacy mission of the WNBA All-Star 2025 Host Committee, representing $1 million in upgrades to four Indiana nonprofits that focus on the empowerment of youth and families through education, wellness, and leadership development. Al Polin Park was selected as one of the Legacy Project recipients due to its deep roots in the community for families and youth, project type, its diversity of audiences served and geographic range.
“The heart of WNBA All-Star Weekend is the opportunity to leave a meaningful legacy and the basketball court renovation at Al Polin Park is a perfect example of that,” said WNBA All-Star 2025 Founding Chair and Pacers Sports & Entertainment CEO Mel Raines. “We’re not just celebrating basketball, we’re investing in the future of our neighborhoods, our parks and our kids. This court will serve families for years to come, and we’re proud to play a part in that.”
As part of the WNBA All-Star Host Committee’s Legacy Projects, The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis received funding to renovate the basketball court at Al Polin Park. Upgrades included new asphalt, custom artwork that includes the WNBA 3-point line, and brand-new goals, rims, and backboards. The court itself has been completely transformed into a vibrant and playable space for the community.
“Indy Parks and The Parks Alliance are thrilled to partner with the 2025 WNBA All-Star Host Committee to deliver this beautiful new court to our near northside neighbors,” said Indy Parks Director Brittany Crone. “Thanks to this project and the upcoming Lilly Endowment Grant investment, Al Polin Park will become a staple of what is possible in our neighborhood parks.”
The new WNBA All-Star Legacy Court is part of a larger investment in Al Polin Park. In the coming weeks, construction will begin on a $600,000 project that will build a new playground and walkways at the park. Funded through the $80 million Lilly Endowment Grant to Indy Parks, the project is scheduled for completion in mid 2026. An overview of the project can be found here.
