The project will include a new playground, pickleball courts, and other site improvements
INDIANAPOLIS – Today, Mayor Hogsett and Indy Parks broke ground on improvements to Sahm Park and highlighted Indy Parks’ upcoming construction across the city.
Located on the city’s northeast side, Sahm Park features soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, an aquatic center, a golf course, volleyball courts, a playground, and more. The $2.7 million project will build a new playground, shelter, pickleball courts, and renovate the existing tennis pavilion and restroom facility. Renderings of the new playground can be found here.
“Our city’s parks are a vital part of how our neighbors experience the place they call home, which is why we continue to invest in them,” said Mayor Hogsett. “Thanks to the generosity of the Lilly Endowment, many of these public spaces are being transformed to better connect residents with the natural world around them.”
Over 40 Indy Parks are currently under or pending the start of construction as part of an investment of over $150 million to upgrade city parks. The timelines of these projects can be found on the Indy Parks Website. Those investments are part of a multi year effort to upgrade over 40% of the city’s 218 parks.
“Sahm Park has been part of life on the north side for generations,” said City-County Councilor Nick Roberts. “The upgrades beginning today will make this space more welcoming for everyone and strengthen the quality of life not only for nearby neighbors but for residents across Indianapolis.”
Other significant park projects that are nearing the start of construction include:
- Garfield Park’s new central playground located next to the pagoda shelter.
- Krannert Park’s new playground, trails, and courts.
- Councilor Directed improvements at Canterbury, Robey, and WISH Parks.

“Parks like Sahm are more than just green spaces—they are places where people connect, where kids grow up, where memories are made,” said Indy Parks Director Brittany Crone. “From Franklin Township to 91st street and everywhere in between, we are delivering new amenities to so many of our city’s beloved parks.”
