4 sports you didn’t know you could play at Indy Parks

People from all over the city head to their favorite Indy Park to play the sports they love, but have you ever considered trying a new sport at one of our parks? Indy Parks has spaces for all sorts of sports, including these 4 sports that you may not have expected to be able to play!

Bicycle Polo

Get ready for a thrilling experience at Arsenal Park’s Bicycle Polo court! Bicycle Polo, a game that’s been around since the late 19th century, is a challenge in coordination, speed, and strategy as players race around the court with mallets in hand.  The bicycle polo court at Arsenal Park is one of the park’s most unique features, as permanent bicycle polo courts are few and far between.

Horseshoe

There’s nothing like the classic outdoor game of horseshoe to bring people together. You can gather your favorite people for an all-ages game at a horseshoe pit at Rev. Charles R. Williams Park. Don’t forget your horseshoes!

Bocce Ball

Alongside its playground and volleyball court, Edna Balz Lacy Park boasts a dirt Boccee Ball court with balls that you can use for game play and a manual scoreboard so you can get as competitive as you’d like!

Futsal

Futsal is a game that’s similar to soccer, but played on a hard court—and you can play it at two Indy Parks location! Oscar Charleston Park is home to an outdoor mini-pitch, built in 2021 as a part of the Black Players for Change and Black Women’s Player Collective “Mini-Pitch Initiative.”

If you’re a beginner or looking for a more structured way to play, Frederick Douglass Park offers instructed, open Futsal for players ages 16 and older on Thursdays, 6:00-7:30PM. Learn more about open futsal at Douglass.
