About McCord Park

Dedicated in 1970, McCord is a 1.6 acre park gem tucked in between Central and College Ave in the historic Watson Park neighborhood.  The park is named after Robert McCord, a local gardener who previously maintained the property.  McCord Park is home to a sundial memorial in honor of fallen police officer William Whitfield.  Officer Whitfield, killed in 1922, was the first African American policeman to be killed in the line of duty in Indiana.  The neighbors keep the memorial beautifully planted with great displays of flowers in memory of Officer Whitfield and Mr. McCord.
