About the Central Canal Trail

⁠The Central Canal Towpath connects Broad Ripple to downtown Indianapolis. The trail runs 7.7 miles along the historic Central Canal—the primary source of drinking water for the Indianapolis metropolitan area.

The trail is composed of compacted stone and can be accessed at Broad Ripple Ave. and Westfield Blvd. or 30th St. at Riverside Regional Park. Destinations along the trail include the Indianapolis Art Center, Butler University, the International School of Indiana, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and more.
